PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Fairfield University rowing teams opened up the 2024 spring season by competing at the Jesuit Invitational on the Schuylkill River.
The men's team competed in the varsity 8, the second varsity 8, and the varsity four. All three of the Stags' crews placed second in their respective race, beginning with the varsity 8 which finished the course in 5:59.7. Fairfield was represented by coxswain Matt Tarabocchia,

Jerry Malloy,
Ryan Wrynn,
Ean Ray,
Connor Carroll,
Zalan Kovacs, Sam Elliott, and
Michael Hamilton.
The second varsity 8 completed the distance in 6:01.5 behind the efforts of coxswain Maddy Gross,
James Penczak, Tommy McLaughlin,
Jack Cartnick,
James Casper,
Nicholas Tapinis,
Brian Peknic,
Lanyon Henwood, and
Paraskevas Fotiadis.
The varsity four captured the runner-up slot in its chase, sporting a time of 6:56.3. Coxswain
Skye Deraffele,
Luca Tarricone,
Spencer Chidley, Michael McCarthy, and
Frank DiNatale comprised Fairfield's entry.
On the women's side, the varsity 8 grabbed the fourth position in its time trail by registering a time of 6:50.6 as coxswain Lexi Tomlinson, Catherine Morrissey, Kathryn Bergstrom, Sophia Savage, Emma Szachta, Megan Blair, Miranda Schmidt, Emily Regan, and Arianna Walton donned Fairfield's colors. The crew advanced to the Petite final and grabbed the top spot by crossing the line in 6:45.3.
The second varsity 8 advanced to the final based on its third-place finish in the trails, recording a time of 6:59.1. In the final, the crew garnered third once again by crossing the line in 6:46.9. The Stags were represented by coxswain Marianna Kalin, Sarah Wendling, Shaylin Tombs, Molly Squire, Victoria Conrad, Zuzanna Janusz, Lauren Hoppe, Shawn O'Brien, and Caroline Tomlinson.
The varsity 4 captured fourth in the trials by securing a finish in 7:42.9 with the Stags comprised by coxswain Alisa Tsavaris, Grace McDonough, Ava Forgione, Caity Gregitis, and Megan Rourke.
