WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Fairfield University Baseball team dropped a 6-2 decision to Army West Point on the road to begin their busy weekend. Paul Catalano and Nick Sturino led the Stags with a pair of hits and both drove in a run, with Catalano's RBI coming on a solo homer in the fourth.
 
The Stags got at least one runner on in every inning but would strand 11 batters in the contest. Catalano started the scoring with a solo shot in the fourth.
 
The Black Knights would score all six of their runs in a two-inning span, starting with a Sam Ruta two-run shot in the sixth. Bowen Baker had surrendered just two hits until the sixth but would run into trouble in that frame. Through the first five frames, Bowen struck out four and giving up just two hits.
 
The Stags tried to make a comeback in the eighth when Sturino lined a two-out single into left to drive in Matt Bucciero. Army West Point would get the final out in that frame and then just allow an Ethan Hibbard walk in the ninth.
 
In total, the Stags collected nine hits and drew five walks.
 
The Stags are back in action on Saturday when they open up their home portion of the 2024 slate when they welcome Army West Point and Fordham to Don and Chris Cook Field for a doubleheader starting at 11:30am.
