FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will host the Saint Peter's Peacocks on Saturday at 2pm. Throughout the game, the women's basketball program will celebrate Black Excellence to honor Black History Month.
The Stags extended the nation's second-longest active winning streak to 18-straight after a 76-49 victory over Marist on Kids Day Out on Thursday. The win was also the 20th for the Stags, the 12th time in program history they have reached that number.
The Stags were led by a trio in double-figures, led by
Kendall McGruder who tied a career-high with four 3-pointers as she went 4-for-5 from long-range.
The offense was orchestrated by
Janelle Brown who recorded her first double-double of the season with 15 points and a career-high 10 assists. Brown filled the stat sheet by adding six rebounds and tying her personal-best with six steals.
Kaety L'Amoreaux and Izabela Nicoletti-Leite also had successful game sharing the ball as the pair each dished out six assists. That success helped the Stags to record a season-high 24 assists with the team also shooting 50 percent from the floor for the eighth time this season.
Fairfield also connected on nine 3-pointers to bring their season total to 195. With eight games remaining in the regular season, the Stags have already broken the program's single season record for made 3-pointers set back during the 2011-12 season. Fairfield would become the 36th team in MAAC history to swish through 200 3-pointers in a season.
Fairfield also recorded 19 steals in their win against Marist, the seventh most in a game in program history and the most in any game since 2007.
Saint Peter's enters the contest with a 5-16 record with a 2-10 mark in the conference. Jada Leonard is the team leader in scoring with 12.7 per game.
The Stags will hit the road for their only game next week, traveling to Emmitsberg, Md., to face Mount St. Mary's on Saturday at 2pm.
