Andrew Baxter has announced that
Luke Okupski,
Matt Rice and
Rory Thompson have been named captains of Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse for the upcoming 2025 season.
"I am proud to announce Luke, Matt and Rory as our team captains," Baxter said. "These three exceptional young men have established themselves as leaders on the field, in our locker room and in the university community, not only during the fall but throughout their careers here at Fairfield. I look forward to having them lead our team into the upcoming season."
A graduate student, Okupski has played 43 games over the last three seasons as a two-way midfielder. He made 11 starts in 2024 and netted eight goals to go along with seven assists. For his career, Okupski has tallied 14 goals, nine assists, 32 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers.
Rice has played 41 games in the defensive midfield since 2022. He enters his senior campaign with 76 ground balls with 21 caused turnovers and has also contributed on the attacking end with four goals and two assists.
A third defensive stalwart for the Stags, Thompson appeared in all 15 games in 2024 and a total of 36 in his three-year career at both close defense and LSM. The senior has collected 41 ground balls with 10 caused turnovers and also scored three goals in his career.
The Stags finished the 2024 campaign at 8-7 overall and 5-2 in the CAA – their first winning record in a full season since 2016. Fairfield earned the third seed in the CAA to make its first postseason appearance since that season.
