FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball program has announced that graduate student guard Janelle Brown will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season with an ACL injury sustained in Fairfield's win over Villanova. Brown, who recently scored her 1,000^th career point, had started seven of her eight appearances this season while averaging 8.3 points and 3.1 assists per game.
 
"First of all, I want to thank this amazing school for the support, knowledge, encouragement and love it has provided me throughout my journey of being a Stag," Brown said. "Recently, I tore my ACL during a game and I will be out for the remainder of this season. I am disappointed that I won't have the chance to play with my teammates again, but I know this is God's plan for me. I am beyond grateful for my teammates, coaches, friends and family who helped and supported me through this difficult time. This is just a bump in the road and I'm excited for the work that comes along with the adversity. Ready to keep writing my story. Delayed not denied."
 
Brown started seven of her eight appearances during her graduate season, averaging 8.3 points and reaching double-figures three times. She also averaged 3.1 assists while leading the team in dishes in three contests.
 
The reigning MAAC Player of the Year finished last season as the most efficient guard in the country, leading all the nation's guards with a .572 shooting percentage which was also the third-best in program history. She led the nationally-ranked Stags to a MAAC Championship and was named the Tournament's MVP after scoring double-figures in all three of the team's wins.
 
Her accolades also included spots on the: All-MAAC First Team, All-Met First Team, and All-ECAC Second Team. She was selected as the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year by the league's 13 head coaches.
 
For her career, Brown eclipsed the 1,000 point milestone in Fairfield's win over Wake Forest and currently has racked up 1,022 points to place 34th in the program's record books. She also has grabbed 421 rebounds, dished out 296 assists, and swiped 214 career steals.
 
The Stags will now turn their attention to conference play, hosting Mount St, Mary's on Saturday at 2pm at Leo D. Mahoney Arena.
