FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team scored 32 points in the second half but dug themselves way too big of a hole in the first half as the Stags fell 62-39 in the home opener to Richmond.
 
The Stags netted only seven points during the first 20 minutes, shooting 12 percent in the half. Fairfield recovered in the second stanza with a 48 percent shooting clip and out-scoring Richmond 32-30 in the second half.
 
The reigning Atlantic 10 champions, Richmond, led by as many as 27 points after their first bucket of the second half.
 
Kaety L'Amoreaux and Meghan Andersen led the Stags with nine points apiece with Emina Selimovic led the squad with seven boards.
 
As a team, the Stags shot just 31 percent in the contest, struggling behind the arc with a 4-for-24 shooting clip.
 
Fairfield entered the contest as the No. 1 Mid-Major team in the World Exposure Mid-Major polls with Richmond ranked eighth in the same poll.
 
Before the game, the Stags also unveiled their MAAC Championship banner and handed out their championship rings as part of a pregame ceremony to highlight last year's historic team.
 
Fairfield will hit the road for another test, traveling to face Oklahoma St., on Saturday at 2pm EST.
