Fairfield University Unveils “42 Brew” in Partnership with Alumni-Owned Elicit Brewing Company

Cultivating community, bridging Fairfield roots and tradition— Fairfield University celebrates its alumni spirit with the launch of 42’ Brew.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Fairfield University is thrilled to announce an exciting new collaboration with Elicit Brewing Company to launch '42 Brew, a special craft beer brewed to celebrate the spirit of the University's enduring legacy and its alumni community. Founded in 1942, Fairfield University has a rich history rooted in Jesuit values, academic excellence, and a deep sense of school pride.

The launch of '42 Brew coincides perfectly with the opening of Elicit's new location in Fairfield, providing a unique opportunity for the University and its alumni to gather over a craft beer that represents camaraderie and connection. Designed to spark joy and enhance reunions among graduates, '42 Brew will also be sold at sporting events on campus, and will be available beginning with the 2024 Alumni Family Weekend, October 18-20. It will soon be available for purchase at Harry's Wine & Liquor Shop in Fairfield, Conn.

"At Fairfield University, we are dedicated to fostering meaningful connections with our local business community and our alumni. The launch of '42 Brew in partnership with Elicit Brewing Company is a testament to that commitment, and the innovative spirit of our alumni," said Jennifer Anderson, vice president of Marketing and Communications. "We are thrilled to provide a space where alumni can return, reconnect, and celebrate their shared experiences, all while enjoying a brew crafted by fellow Stags."

This partnership highlights the remarkable journey of two brothers, both proud Fairfield alumni, who are making waves in the local brewing scene.

Brothers Steve Ciardiello '80, and Peter Ciardiello, '81, are dynamic entrepreneurs whose experience at Fairfield University ignited their passion for business and community. After starting in the restaurant, legal, and insurance industries thirty years ago, they embarked on their latest adventure: Elicit Brewing Company. With successful locations already in Manchester, Conn. and now Fairfield, their vision is clear—to create a gathering place for friends, families, and in Fairfield, fellow alums.

Reflecting on how their Fairfield University education influenced them, Steve Ciardiello, a pre-med major said, "I developed a tremendous appreciation for the Jesuit core curriculum. The style of education, the way that they teach...We had a broader base knowledge of a lot of different subjects. We were well rounded, educated grads, and it helped tremendously." He noted that his Fairfield education developed his analytical skills and fostered a willingness to listen, analyze, and evaluate situations.

Peter Ciardiello, who was a business major and played baseball at Fairfield, added, "Fairfield taught me a lot about structure, and motivation... My schedule was very tight and time management was very important. I think that helped me immensely in my professional career."

After searching for 10 to 15 years to open Elicit in Fairfield, the Ciardiellos and their partners, including their brother, Richard; sister, Paula; and childhood friend, Rich, are thankful that it has finally become a reality and are enjoying the opportunity to connect with fellow alumni in their new space.

The partnership between Elicit Brewing Company and Fairfield University was facilitated by the University's third party sponsorship agency—Van Wagner Sports and Entertainment—who also played a key role in facilitating the University's partnership with Silvermine Coffee Roasters, and the recent launch of Red Sea Coffee.
