FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will open up a two-game road trip when they travel to Lawrenceville, N.J., to take on the Rider Broncs on Thursday night at 7pm. The Stags will enter the game on a 15-game winning streak and will look to match their longest winning streak in their program history, dating back nearly 50 years.
The Stags extended the nation's second-longest active winning streak with a 70-42 victory over Canisius at home on Saturday. Fairfield shot exactly 50 percent in the game, the sixth-time this season they have connected on at least half of their shots. That number includes a 64 percent clip inside the 3-point arc. Fairfield has been one of the most accurate teams in the country on 2-point shots with a 57 percent field goal percentage, the sixth-highest number in the nation.
Fairfield also allowed a season-low 42 points while forcing a season-high 25 turnovers. Fairfield currently ranks 14th in the nation in scoring defense at 54.2 points per game.
That success on both sides of the ball has increased Fairfield's national rankings as they received 13 votes in the most recent AP Top-25 poll and seven votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll. The Stags also moved up one spot in the College Insider Mid-Major Top-25 Poll, ranking ninth in the nation.
Freshman
Meghan Andersen enters the game as the MAAC's leading scorer at 17.9 points per game while winning nine MAAC Rookie of the Week awards, tying the third-most in conference history. For the season, Andersen ranks fourth in the country among freshmen with her 17.9 points per game while placing second in field goal percentage (.568) and third in 3-point percentage (.408).
Rider enters the game with a 2-7 record in the MAAC and a 5-13 mark overall. Taylor Langan is the team leader in both points (14.3) and rebounds (8.8) per game.
The Stags will next travel to New Rochelle, N.Y., to face Iona on Saturday at 3pm.
