FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will make the short 20-mile trip to Hamden, Conn., when they visit in-state rivals Quinnipiac on Thursday at 5pm. The Stags will enter the game with the nation's second-longest winning streak at 13-straight wins, including a perfect 7-0 mark in the league.
Fairfield extended their winning streak with a 60-46 road win at Marist on Saturday. The Stags used a game-deciding 17-0 second quarter run to build a lead they would not relinquish.
Emina Selimovic had an impact on both sides of the floor as she recorded her first double-double as a Stag with 15 points and a career-high tying 10 rebounds.
Meghan Andersen paced the team with 19 points.
The Stags 15-1 overall mark is the third-highest in the country and that success has been recognized around the nation. The squad has earned votes in both the USA Today Coaches and AP Top-25 polls, the seventh MAAC team in history to earn votes in the national poll. Fairfield also moved to the top-10 in the College Insider Mid-Major poll.
For leading the Stags to an historic start in just her second season, Head Coach
Carly Thibault-DuDonis was just one of 10 coaches nationwide to be named to the inaugural Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year Midseason Watch List.
The Stags enter the game as the MAAC leader in 13 different categories while placing in the top-25 in the country in seven.
The Stags rank near the top in the country in almost every defensive measure, including placing 20th in scoring defense allowing just 54.7 points per game. The Stags also limit their opponents to just a .332 field goal percentage, trailing only No. 1 South Carolina and No. 2 Kansas State.
The success on defense has transferred over to the offensive side of the ball, with the Stags averaging a conference-best 74.6 points per game, their highest total in nearly 30 years. The Stags have accomplished this through a selfless style of basketball, leading the MAAC and ranking in the top-35 in the country with 17.3 assists per game. Fairfield is also very accurate shooting the ball with a .465 field goal percentage, the 26th best mark in Division I. Finally, their 9.4 3-pointers per game is in the top-10 in the country.
Quinnipiac enters with a 7-9 overall record and a 4-3 mark in the league. Jackie Grisdale leads the team with 14.1 points per game while Anna Foley paces the team on the boards with 6.4 rebounds.
Fairfield next welcomes Canisius on Saturday at 2pm.
