Andersen Named to Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Midseason Watch List

HOPEWELL, N.J. – Fairfield University Women's Basketball Road Runner Meghan Andersen is making her name around the nation.  The freshman was one of just 15 players nationally selected to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Midseason Watch List, the only rookie to receive the honor. Andersen, who has been awarded the MAAC Rookie of the Week accolade a program record eight times, is also the conference's scoring leader at 17.9 points per game.

"The Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year award is one of the most prestigious awards a player can be considered for, so this is a tremendous honor for Meg and our program," Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "Being the only freshman on the list shows that she truly has developed into one of the best first year players anywhere in the country, and our team's success has allowed her to showcase that on a national level. We are so proud of Meg for continuing to put her head down and work and not be satisfied regardless of her incredible accomplishments thus far."

Andersen has won a total of 10 conference weekly awards, being selected the Player of the Week twice and the Rookie of the Week eight times, the most in the nation.

She leads the team in seven different categories including: scoring (17.9 points), rebounding (6.1), 3-pointers made (2.3), and blocks (1.5).

She is the only Division I player in the country to currently be shooting greater than 55 percent from the field, 41 percent from 3-point range, and 90 percent from the free throw line.

Nationally, she ranks fifth among all Division I rookies in points per game while placing third in field goal percentage, and seventh in 3-pointers per game.

Andersen has already become the first Stag rookie to ever reach 30 points in a game as she reached the milestone in the road win against Niagara. She has also set the program record with eight MAAC Rookie of the Week honors.

Andersen's success has helped the Stags to a 14-1 overall record and a perfect 6-0 mark in the MAAC while receiving votes in the National AP-Top 25 poll for the first time in program history. Fairfield has also won 12-straight games, the third longest active streak in the nation.

The award, presented by Her Hoops Stats, unveiled their 25-player preseason watch list in October. The 10 semifinalists will be announced in February, followed by the five finalists announced in early March. The winner will be announced around the Final Four.
