EDISON, N.J. – Fairfield University Women's Basketball freshman Road Runner Meghan Andersen was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week for the eighth time this season. The rookie led the Stags with 16.5 points per game in another 2-0 week for the Stags including a team-high 23 points in the close win against Siena on Saturday. The eight weekly honors are the most by any MAAC student-athlete since Siena's Margot Hetzke earned the award nine times during the 2014-15 season.
 
"Our league does an incredible job of scouting and defensive game planning, so the fact that Meg continues to find ways to score and impact our team is a testament to her work ethic and consistency," Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "She has also made huge strides defensively in her ability to rim protect and rebound which directly leads to our team's success. We are so proud of Meg!"
 
Andersen tallied double-figures in both games bringing her personal streak to nine-straight games. Her weekend was highlighted in the gutsy victory over Siena where she led the team with 23 points, 17 coming in the first half. She also recorded four blocks and five rebounds in the win over the Saints.
 
For the weekend, Andersen also averaged 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.5 blocks, and 1.0 steals while shooting 52 percent from the floor.
 
For the season, Andersen ranks fifth in the nation among rookies with her 17.9 scoring average while placing third with a .551 field goal percentage. The Road Runner also is the fourth-most accurate 3-point shooter in the nation among first-year players with a .417 mark.
 
Andersen has helped the Stags to a 12-game winning streak, the third-longest active streak in the country. That success has put Fairfield in the national conversation, earning four votes in the most recent AP Top-25 poll, doubling the amount from last week.
 
The Stags will be back in action in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., when they face Marist on Saturday at 4pm.
