FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Pitcher
Alyssa Weinberg garnered the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (
MAAC) Rookie of the Week honor after her three-game performance in the Fairfield University softball team's 5-0 week. The
freshman earned a pair of saves and a victory in her three appearances last week.
Weinberg tossed 9.1 scoreless innings over the seven-day stretch. The left hander allowed four hits and fanned 13 hitters during the week. She opened things with three scoreless innings by allowing one hit and striking out six to earn a save against Army. She retired the only batter she faced to close the game in a win against Siena. Weinberg finished the week with six scoreless innings, yielding three hits and registering seven strikeouts to earn the win that clinched a spot in the
MAAC tournament for the Stags.
For the season, Weinberg leads the team with four saves and places second among her teammates with six victories. After her three outings, Weinberg leads the team with 29 appearances, coming out of the bullpen for 21 of those outings. She leads the team with 80 strikeouts in her 82.1 innings pitched, averaging 6.8 strikeouts per seven innings pitched.

Julie Brzezinski, starts play in the 2023 MAAC Championship this week, beginning with Wednesday's match up with fifth-seeded Siena College. The first pitch is slated for 1 pm. The double-elimination tournament continues through Saturday, May 13 with the winner receiving an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
