Tradition of Academic Excellence Continues in Latest NCAA Report

Seven teams post a perfect 1000 in the latest APR cohort

INDIANAPOLIS – Led by seven teams to record a perfect 1000, Fairfield University Athletics added another benchmark to its continued tradition of academic excellence with the release of latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) from the NCAA. The most recent APR data includes multi-year data from the 2018-19 through the 2021-22 academic years.

Fairfield shared the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference lead with six programs earning a perfect 1000 multi-year APR score – men's and women's cross country, men's golf, men's swimming and diving, women's soccer and women's tennis. The Stags' seventh 1000 APR score came from field hockey, which competes in the Northeast Conference.

Five additional Fairfield athletics program boasted a multi-year APR score better than 990 – women's lacrosse (997), women's swimming and diving (997), softball (996), baseball (995) and men's lacrosse (991).

Implemented in 2003 as part of an ambitious academic reform effort in Division I, the Academic Progress Rate (APR) holds institutions accountable for the academic progress of their student-athletes through a team-based metric that accounts for the eligibility and retention of each student-athlete for each academic term.
