FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team will travel to the site of the 2023 MAAC Championships when they head to Clover Stadium to face the Manhattan Jaspers for a three-game series starting Thursday at 3pm. The series is scheduled for another game on Friday night at 7pm and to conclude on Saturday at 7pm.
The Stags bring 15 wins overall and a 5-1 conference record into the series after winning three-straight against Mount St. Mary's and Yale. The big part of the success has come in the power department as the Stags have hit 11 home runs in those three games to bring their season total to 48, the 23rd most in the country. The 48 long balls are already the second most in a season in program history with at least 27 games left to play.
Charlie Pagliarini has been at the forefront of that power display with a MAAC-best 10 homers while placing second in the league with a .783 slugging percentage. He is also the MAAC leader with 37 RBI, ranking in the top-40 in the nation.
The homers have helped the Stags score a conference best 8.8 runs per game, the 21st most in the NCAA. Fairfield has scored 10 or more runs in 13 games this year including three-straight. As a team, the Stags have a .546 slugging percentage, the 11th-highest in the NCAA.
Mike Becchetti has been the table setter for the Stags' offense with a league best 45 hits and his 1.73 hits per game ranks 21st in the country. He is also riding an 18-game hitting streak which is tied for the second longest in program history. He has also tallied the most total bases in the conference with 78 including his eight home runs.
The Jaspers bring an 8-19 overall record after winning their only MAAC series of the year against Saint Peter's. Pete Durocher is the team's leading hitter with a .281 average and three homers.
Fairfield will return to Alumni Diamond for a single non-conference game against Quinnipiac on Tuesday at 3pm.
