NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Fairfield University Baseball team fell to the Merrimack Warriors 4-1 on Saturday, evening their three-game set. Right-hander
Ben Alekson went 6.2 solid innings while
Nolan Colby provided the offense for the Stags with a solo homer in the fifth.
Alekson started with six shutout innings with Merrimack plating all four of their runs in the seventh. The Warriors loaded the bases with one out and beat out a double play ball that would have ended the inning. Merrimack scored an extra run on the errant throw and would tally another run with an infield single.
That was the only offense for Merrimack with Alekson limiting them to six hits through the first six frames.
The Stags themselves picked up three base knocks with Colby providing the biggest hit with a solo shot to give the Stags a 1-0 lead in the fifth.
The loss snaps Fairfield's eight-game MAAC winning streak.
The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Saturday at noon.
