FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team will host the St. John's Red Storm in midweek action on Tuesday at 3pm at Alumni Diamond. The Stags are coming off three-straight wins as they swept Siena in their conference series of the year, combining to out-score Siena 33-4 on the weekend.
The Fairfield pitching was the highlight of the dominating series, holding the Saints to four runs and 10 hits in 25 innings pitched.
Jake Noviello was at the forefront of the pitching action with a complete game two-hit shutout in the opener as he also fanned a career-high 10 batters.
Colin McVeigh and
Peter Ostensen also picked up victories in the series with Ostensen allowing one hit in five frames.
The Stags' offense also succeeded in the series, raising their team average to .316, the 18th highest in the nation. Fairfield is now also scoring 8.7 runs per game, ranking in the top-25 in the nation.
Fairfield once again showed the power as seven different Stags blasted a home run which brought their season total to 35. That number is already tied for the sixth-most in school history.
Mike Becchetti had one of those home runs and enters the game on a 13-game hit streak and also leads the MAAC and ranks in the top-20 in the country with a .416 batting average and 1.76 hits per game.
St. John's enters the game with a 15-7 overall record after taking two out of three games from Richmond. Aaron Mann is the team's leading hitter with a .425 average and a team-high 34 hits.
Fairfield will next hit the road to take on newest MAAC member Mount St. Mary's for the first time in program history for a three-game series starting on Friday at 3pm.
