FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball's team trip to the state of Virginia will begin a day later after anticipated weather canceled their Friday game at Richmond. The Stags will now start their weekend games on Saturday at William & Mary at 2pm and is scheduled to complete their stay at VCU on Sunday with a doubleheader at 11am.
The Stags enter the weekend as the top offensive team in the MAAC through the first six games, leading the conference in: batting average (.322), hits (73), home runs (11), on-base percentage (.398), runs (52), and slugging percentage (.537).
That hot offense, combined with the pitching of
Colin McVeigh, allowed the Stags to take the three-game series against George Washington last weekend.
Pagliarini led the offensive charge with a .667 batting average while getting a hit in six of nine at-bats and reaching base nine times on the weekend. He also recorded fourth career multi-home run game including the go-ahead homer in the top of the ninth in the opener. For his success, he was named the MAAC Player of the Week. For the season, he leads the MAAC and ranks 15th in the nation with a .524 batting average.
McVeigh anchored the starting staff by picking up the win with five scoreless innings in the finale. He struck out two in picking up his first win of the season.
William & Mary enters the weekend with a 6-4 overall record after sweeping Marist in a series that they put up 59 runs. Ben Williamson leads the team with a .463 average on 19 hits.
VCU enters the game with a 2-6 record after a sweep from Sacred Heart. The Rams have already played the Stags, winning that contest 10-3 in South Carolina. Will Carlone leads the team with a .500 average on 18 hits.
The Stags will next begin their southern trip with five games in the state of Florida, beginning with a three-game series against North Florida.
