FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will look to start a new winning streak when they welcome the Rider Broncs to the Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Saturday at 2pm. The Stags program will also be honoring Black Excellence and Black History Month while also celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
The Stags snapped their three-game winning streak as they fell to Manhattan 53-46 on the road. Fairfield was forced to play from behind the entire game and fell behind by as many as 13 in the second half.
Kate Peek provided the spark off the bench by drilling three-straight 3-pointers to cut the deficit to two in the fourth quarter.
The Stags would trail by just one point in the final 1:30 of the game but could not tie the contest. Fairfield would net 32 points and shoot 44 percent in the second half after tallying a season-low two points in the second quarter.
Fairfield scored 22 points from the bench, a trend over the last few games. The Stags are averaging 24.3 points from their reserves over the last three contests.
Mimi Rubino is leading the way with 11.7 points over that stretch while Peek is shooting 60 percent (6-for-10) from 3-point range. Mackenzie Daleba has controlled the boards with 5.7 rebounds per game during that stretch.
Rider comes in with a 2-10 mark in the MAAC, most recently falling to Quinnipiac. Amanda Mobley is their playmaker with a MAAC best 6.1 assists per game.
Fairfield will not stay home for long as they hit the road again on Thursday night for a 7pm clash against league leading Iona.
