EDISON, N.J. – After the most dominant game of her career, Fairfield University Women's Basketball senior guard
Janelle Brown was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week after erupting for a career-high 35 points in the overtime win at Sacred Heart. Brown earned the honor for the second-straight week.
"Nellie's performance last week was spectacular and I'm really proud of her growth," Head Coach
Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "She was able to take over a game while still playing disciplined defensively and playing as a team. She took the right shots at the right time and we got to see one of the most efficient shooting games you'll ever see. Her ability to make those shots is a testament to how hard she works and I'm excited for her to be recognized again!"
Brown shot an amazing 15-for-17 from the field, including 14-for-15 in the second half. She netted 23 of the team's final 25 points while assisting on the other bucket. That stretch was highlighted by her connecting on the game-tying floated with 0.9 seconds remaining that forced overtime. In total, Brown hit the squad's final eight field goals.
Her 15-for-17 shooting performance tied Katrina Fields for the second most accurate shooting night in program history. It also ranks seventh in the NCAA this season, and the highest by anyone with 15 or more made field goals. Her 35 points also ties Tricia Sacca (Fabbri) for the fourth most in a single game in program history.
Brown now ranks second in the nation with her .745 shooting percentage, which includes an outstanding .848 shooting clip (28-for-33) in her last three games.
Brown and the Stags will look to build on that performance when they host St. John's in the Leo D. Mahoney Arena, their first home game in nearly a month, on Thursday night at 7pm.
