FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will complete a six-game road trip and travel just a few miles from campus when they take on crosstown rivals Sacred Heart on Wednesday night at 7pm on SNY. The game will be Fairfield's first road game against the Pioneers in their Division I era.
The Stags are coming off their fourth 20-point win of the season as they downed Central Connecticut State 78-52 on Sunday.
Meghan Andersen and
Janelle Brown tied for the team lead with 22 points apiece with Andersen also tallying her first career double-double with a team-high 12 rebounds.
Both of those performances were noticed throughout the league as the duo swept the MAAC Weekly Awards with Brown being named the MAAC Player of the Week for the first time in her career and Andersen earning her second conference Rookie of the Week accolade.
Brown led the Stags with an 18.0 scoring average during their 2-0 week while shooting an amazing 81 percent from the field. Against the Blue Devils, Brown missed just one shot the entire afternoon by going 7-for-8 from the field and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
The Stags held Central Connecticut to just 29 percent shooting, the fourth opponent who has failed to reach a 30 percent field goal mark in Fairfield's five games. Fairfield ranks third in the nation in field goal percentage with their opponents shooting just .304 for the season.
On the offensive side, the Stags reached the 70-point mark for the fifth-straight game, the first time since the 2001-02 campaign that have accomplished that feat. Fairfield ranks 23rd in the nation with an 83.2 scoring average while placing third in the country with 10.8 three pointers per game.
Sacred Heart enters play with a 4-3 overall record which included a four-game winning streak. Last season's NEC Player, Rookie, and Defensive Player of the Year Ny'Ceara Pryor once again leads the team in almost every category including: points per game (15.0), rebounds per game (5.8), assists (26), and steals (16).
Fairfield will return home for the first time in nearly a month when they welcome Big East St. John's to the Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Thursday at 7pm.
