FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will play their first game in over a week and continue their five-game road trip when they visit Rutgers on Monday night. The Stags will be playing their second-straight opponent from a Power Five conference after narrowly dropping a decision to Vanderbilt last week.
The Stags come into the contest ranked in the top-40 in the country in both scoring offense (86.7 points per game) and scoring defense (51.0 points allowed).
On the offensive front, the Stags have found success from behind the arc, placing second in the nation in 3-pointers per game at 12.7, just 0.1 behind national leader Utah. Freshmen
Kaety L'Amoreaux and
Meghan Andersen have combined for 19 3-pointers, with L'Amoreaux ranking 12th in Division I with 3.67 per contest.
The reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week, Andersen, adds 2.67 triples per contest and holds a team-high 19.0 scoring average, placing third in the conference and placing sixth in the country among first-year players.
Her 57 points is the most a Stag have netted in their first collegiate games in their 43-year Division I era.
On the defensive side, the Stags' stifling defensive effort has forced opponents to shoot just 28 percent from the floor, the eighth lowest in the country, with all three opponents have shot under 30 percent.
Rutgers enters the week with a 3-2 record after a 29-point win against Saint Francis. Destiny Adams is the team's top offensive player, nearly averaging a double-double with team-highs of 14.4 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.
The Stags will stay on the road, but play their first of six-straight in the state of Connecticut when they take on Central Connecticut State on Sunday at 1pm.
