Field Hockey Takes Two-Game Road Trip This Weekend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- After completing an unbeaten three-game homestand, the Fairfield University field hockey team will take its five-game winning streak on the road for a pair of games this weekend. The Stags open play with a Northeast Conference (NEC) match at Wagner College on Friday afternoon before heading north for a non-conference match up with the University of Maine on Sunday afternoon.

  • Lucie Vincent became the fifth Fairfield student-athlete to earn weekly recognition from the NEC, collecting both the Offensive Player and the Rookie of the Week awards. She joins Alex Senior (Offensive on September 6), Payton Rahn (Defensive on September 6), Courtland Schumacher (Rookie on September 12), and Gabby Gober (Rookie on September 26) as conference weekly award winners. Vincent scored three goals and added an assist in the two victories last weekend.
  • The Stags added to their winning streak with a win over Sacred Heart and Saint Francis last weekend, providing the team with its longest streak since a six-gamer in 2021. Fairfield closed out the regular-season with four straight wins and tacked on two more victories in the NEC Championship tournament that season. The current run of wins includes two non-conference wins and three NEC victories. 
  • Vincent is the team's top scorer with six goals and three assists for 15 points in addition to pacing the offense with three game-winning goals. Senior is also in double figures for scoring, coming into the weekend with five goals and two assists for 12 points. Carmel Van Dijk is the team's top play maker with five assists, one more than freshman Dominique Van Der Zee's four assists. Goalkeeper Payton Rahn earned her third clean sheet of the season with the 2-0 decision over Saint Francis. The junior owns a 1.10 goals against average with a ..756 save percentage off 34 saves.

About Wagner
  • Wagner split a pair of NEC matches last weekend, starting with a 3-2 win over Merrimack last Friday before falling to Sacred Heart on Sunday by a 2-1 count on the road. The Seahawks offense seems to have found its stride by scoring six goals in the last three matches including a season-high against Merrimack. Four student-athletes are responsible for the offensive outburst with Natalie Rocuskie (Drexel and Sacred Heart) and Shaelyn Kobrynich (Drexel and Merrimack) scoring two each. Matilda Heisel and Emma Lofstedt completed the scoring for the Seahawks with one goal each.
  • The goalkeeper duties have been handled by three student-athletes with Sam Black retaining a majority of the minutes. She has started six games and accounted for 325 minutes with a .649 save percentage (37 saves). 

About Maine
  • The Bears will host the Stags on Sunday at noon, the 11th home game of the season for the University of Maine. The team has split its first 10 home games with a 5-5 mark which has led it to a 6-7 overall record coming into this weekend. Four the team's seven losses have come to teams that were nationally ranked at the time of the game, namely Boston College (#17), Northwestern University (#3), UMass (#20), and the University at Albany (#19). 
  • Mallory Mackesy has registered team highs for goals (11), assists (co-leader with five), and total points (27) in addition to ranking 16th in the nation with 0.85 goals scored per game. Tereza Holubcova also has five assists to along with her three goals, giving her 11 points on the season. Mallory Drayer has spent most of the season in the Maine goal, playing 590 minutes with a 2.24 goals against average with a .656 save percentage.
