Men's Soccer Hosts Colgate, Travels To Bryant This Week

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- With back-to-back shutouts in their collective pocket, the Fairfield University men's soccer team will now turn their attention to a pair of programs that are on a similar trajectory. The Stags will host Colgate University on Wednesday night at Lessing Field before taking to the road for a Sunday afternoon match with Bryant University.

Like the Stags, Bryant lost their opening match, a 3-1 setback to UT-Rio Grande Valley for the Bulldogs, before posting back-to-back wins against Merrimack (2-0 score) and Brown (2-1 score) at home. Colgate opened its season with an impressive win over 16th-ranked Providence College on the road before playing to a 1-1 draw against Marist College and edging Binghamton on the road. Fairfield also lost their opener before reeling off consecutive wins against Navy and UAlbany, both by 1-0 finals.

Colgate boasts the talents of Aidan Dovack, who is responsible for a goal in each of the team's last two outings and leads the team with four total points. Max Edelstein has made his mark on the program with a goal and an assist for three points, coming off the bench in all three of the team's matches this season. Timmy Donovan is the Raiders' third goal scorer this season, picking up one of Colgate's three goals against Providence. Goalkeeper Andrew Cooke garnered the nod in the first two games of the campaign, collecting a 1.50 goals against average with three saves. Oliver Townend secured the shutout against Binghamton with two saves in 90 minutes of work.

Bryant has scored in all three matches this season including multi-goal efforts against Merrimack College and Brown University. Nick Awada has had a hand in three of the team's five goals this season, scoring both of his goals in the win over Brown. Brooklyn Baker has the team's other game winner this year, posting the first goal in the shutout of Merrimack. Goalkeeper Luca Marinelli made three saves in that game to secure the shutout, giving up one goal and securing 11 saves in the team's last two games.

Fairfield will play the second of nine home games this season when it welcomes Colgate University as the Stags are in a stretch where they play four of five games at Lessing Field. The Stags have won back-to-back games by one goal with Rasmus Sorensen-Rejnhold picking the game winner in the team's date with UAlbany. Raz Amir tallied the deciding goal in the Navy game and brings three points into Wednesday night's match. He earned an assist in the season opener against UMBC as Sorensen-Rejnhold and Alex Olivera each scored in that game. Goalkeeper James Anderson owns consecutive clean sheets for the Stags, making three saves versus Navy and securing six stops against UAlbany.

Following this week's action, the Stags, under Head Coach Carl Rees, will return home for two more matches as the University of Rhode Island steps on campus for a September 14 match while Princeton University follows for a September 17 match at Lessing Field.
