Men's Golf Opens Fall Schedule at Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate

SIMSBURY, Conn. – Fairfield University men's golf will make its first appearance of the 2022-23 campaign when they head to nearby Simsbury for the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate. Six Stags will take to the course for the two-day 18-hole invitational the first of five matches for the squad this fall.

THE FAIRFIELD FIVE

Head Coach Doug Holub will send out his five-player lineup in addition to Chase Millar who will be the lone individual for the Stags this weekend. The Fairfield quintet features:

Jason SalamenoSalameno returns for a fifth year with the Stags after competed in 11 tournaments during the season including the 2022 MAAC Championships. He posted an average score of 75.06 in 23.5 rounds played, finishing par or better six times and tallied his best finish of the season when he captured third place in the 29-player field at the Sacred Heart Fall Classic (Oct. 17-18). He recorded his lowest round of both the season and his career with a 67, three shots under par, at the Hartford/Wintonbury Hills Invitational (Apr. 2-3) which helped the Stags take first place in the five-team, two-round tournament.

Killian McGinley During his junior campaign last season McGinley competed in 12 tournaments during the season including the 2022 MAAC Championships. Posting an average score of 74.87 in 26.5 rounds played and finished par or better five times, he tied his best career-finish twice with second-place finishes out of 29 players at the Sacred Heart Fall Classic (Oct. 17-18) and out of 33 players at the Hartford/Wintonbury Hills Invitational (Apr. 2-3) which helped the Stags take first place in the latter of the two, a five-team, two-round tournament. His lowest round of the season came in the final round of the Ryan T. Lee Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 11-12) where he improved by 10 strokes to card a 68, four shots under par.

Patrick McCarthyMcCarthy competed in nine tournaments during the 2021-22 season, including the 2022 MAAC Championships, while also making three appearances as an individual. He posted an average score of 76.26 in 19.5 rounds played, finishing par or better four times and recorded his best finish of the season when he captured second-place in the 36-player field at the Sacred Heart Men's Spring Invitational (Apr. 10-12). McCarthy shot his lowest round of the season with a 71, one shot under par in both the opening round of the SHU Men's Spring Invitational (Apr. 10-12) and in the second round of the MAAC Championships.

Colin SummersSummers competed in 10 tournaments during the season including the 2022 MAAC Championship and posted an average score of 74.59 in 22.0 rounds played. He recorded his best finish of the season when he captured a share of fourth-place out of 60 golfers at the Sacred Heart Spring Invitational (Mar. 11-12) and carded his lowest score of the season when he shot a 71, one over par in the final round of The Yale Spring Invitational (Apr. 16).

Zach Maloy – Maloy gets the final nod in the Fairfield five after competing in five tournaments during the season, with one appearance as an individual, posting an average score of 79.45 in 11.0 rounds played, and finishing par or better on two occasions. Maloy recorded the best finish of his career, tied for 4th in the 89-player field at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 11-12), and tallied his lowest round of the season on the opening day of the same tournament, carding a 70, two shots under par.

ON THE DOCKET

Following this weekend's season opener Fairfield men's golf will have two weeks off before they head to South Kent, Conn. to compete in the Hartford Hawks Invitational Sept. 19-20.
