Dan Cellucci Named Volunteer Assistant Baseball Coach

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball program has announced the addition of Dan Cellucci as the team's new volunteer assistant coach. Cellucci brings valuable experience in both the collegiate and minor league baseball fields after a four-year playing career at Bryant and an internship with the Greenville Drive in the Boston Red Sox organization. In his new position, Cellucci will work with the team's defensive positioning and baserunning as well as coaching first base.

"We are excited to announce our new volunteer coach Dan Cellucci," Head Coach Bill Currier said. "He comes from a highly successful program at Bryant and was a team captain and leader for three NEC championship teams. He is a talented young coach who has worked in professional baseball with the Red Sox as well as coaching in college following his playing days at Bryant."

Cellucci played four years as a shortstop at Bryant where he helped the Bulldogs to three NEC Championships while winning the NEC Regular Season in all four seasons. His best year came during his senior campaign when he batted a career-high .312 while starting all 59 games. He would be named an All-NEC First Team honoree as well as earning a spot on the All-New England Third Team. His 184 games played still ranks eighth all-time in Bryant program history while his 442 assists places him third.

After his collegiate playing days, Cellucci served as a player development intern for the Greenville Drive in the Boston Red Sox organization. In that position, he was responsible for advanced scouting reports, capturing and analyzing video, and also covered the California League as a Pro Scout.

Cellucci's first coaching position came last year as a volunteer assistant coach for Merrimack College where he was responsible for the development of positional player defense and helped shortstop Nick Shumski earn the D2 Rawlings Gold Glove Award.

Cellucci joins a Fairfield team coming off back-to-back MAAC Regular Season titles while winning 30 or more games in each of the last three full seasons.
