FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium – the home of Fairfield University Lacrosse – will be upgraded this summer with a new FieldTurf playing surface. The renovation was made possible via a $750,000 gift from an anonymous donor in recognition of the four straight MAAC Championships won by Fairfield Women's Lacrosse and Head Coach
Laura Field.
In addition to improvements to the playing surface on Conway Field, the new turf will feature enhanced Fairfield University and Fairfield Athletics branding. The design of the FieldTurf will be unveiled as the project nears completion in early September.
"We are grateful for this exceptional display of generosity and this incredible gift that will allow us to upgrade the surface of Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium," said Vice President for Athletics
Paul Schlickmann. "Rafferty Stadium is among the premier lacrosse venues in the nation, and the addition of a state-of-the-art playing surface, as well as the branding and visual enhancements on our new FieldTurf, all add to the first-class atmosphere and championship-caliber experience that we strive to provide for all of our student-athletes."
Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium has hosted eight seasons of Fairfield University Men's and Women's Lacrosse since opening in February of 2015. The venue seats 2,650 fans with a total capacity of 3,500 spectators including standing room. Rafferty Stadium is also the home of Fairfield Prep football, soccer and lacrosse, Fairfield University club sports, and is used as a practice space for Fairfield University baseball, softball, and men's and women's soccer.
Rafferty Stadium recently gained national attention in July of 2022 as host to a weekend of Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) action. The two-day run featured a pair of sold out crowds as well as a national television audience on ESPN2 for three of the weekend's four games. The stadium previously hosted a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Semifinal in the summer of 2016.
