Fairfield Athletics Wins Third Consecutive MAAC Commissioner’s Cup, Fifth Straight Women’s Commissioner’s Cup

The Stags won five MAAC Championships and four MAAC Regular Season Championships in 2025-26

EDISON, N.J. – For the third consecutive season, Fairfield University Athletics has won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Richard J. Ensor, Esq. Commissioner's Cup. The Stags also claimed the MAAC Commissioner's Cup for Women's Sports for the fifth straight academic year.

The Richard J. Ensor, Esq. MAAC Commissioner's Cup is awarded annually as a symbol of overall excellence in athletics in the 23 championships conducted within the MAAC. Only the scores from Men's & Women's Basketball, plus the top six men's and top six women's scores are used to determine an institution's total points.

"We are thrilled and honored to win the Richard J. Ensor, Esq. MAAC Commissioner's Cup for the third consecutive season and the Women's Commissioner's Cup for the fifth straight year. These awards represent the achievement of annual departmental goals indicative of our continued commitment to comprehensive competitive excellence," said Vice President for Athletics Paul Schlickmann. "Sustained success at a championship-caliber level is one of the greatest challenges in sports and we celebrate the unique accomplishments of all our programs in this 2025-26 version of the Commissioner's Cup. This is a TEAM award shared by our university leadership, our campus partners and our extended Stags family who provide us with the services and support to become the best version of ourselves."

Fairfield won MAAC Tournament Championships in Volleyball, Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving, and Women's Lacrosse. The Stags also bolstered their Commissioner's Cup total as the MAAC Regular Season Champions in Women's Soccer, Volleyball, Women's Basketball, and Women's Lacrosse.

The Stags scored a total of 192.5 points in the overall standings to race past the trio of Quinnipiac (155.5), Marist (155), and Sacred Heart (150.5). The 2025-26 Commissioner's Cup is Fairfield's seventh in program history – second among current MAAC members. The Stags had never won consecutive Commissioner's Cups prior to the current run of three in a row.

The fifth straight Commissioner's Cup for Women's Sports increases Fairfield's MAAC-leading total to 14 in program history. In addition to five women's programs to post a MAAC Championship or Regular Season Championship campaign, Fairfield earned points on the ledger with a second-place finish in Softball and a fifth-place performance in Women's Cross Country – sparked by Hannah Snayd's second straight individual MAAC Championship.

The Stags recorded 117 points on the women's tally to power past Quinnipiac's 106.5 followed by a distant third-place Sacred Heart at 80 points.

On the men's ledger, Fairfield improved to third place after an eighth-place finish in 2024-25. The Stags improved their totals from the prior year in four of seven MAAC men's programs: Cross Country, Soccer, Basketball, and the MAAC Champion Swimming & Diving squad. Baseball was the top-scoring men's team with 16 points courtesy of a second-place tie in the regular season and runner-up performance in the postseason. Men's Golf's scoring was fueled by an individual MAAC Championship performance by Rasmus Ditzinger.

The MAAC Commissioner's Cup does not account for Fairfield's athletics programs that compete outside the conference, including the Stags' nationally-ranked field hockey team that won the NEC Regular Season and Tournament Championships in 2025-26 and went on to win an NCAA postseason game over Boston University.

"I am extremely proud of ALL our coaches, staff, and student-athletes – including those who don't compete in the MAAC – whose relentless commitment to a shared aspirational vision inspires our ability to meet high expectations and a consistent desire to raise our own bar," added Schlickmann.
