Venuto Named to NEIBA All-New England Second Team

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Baseball junior slugger Matt Venuto was named to the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Second Team following his impressive performance as the Stags' designated hitter this season. Venuto, who was also named to the All-MAAC Second Team, batted .327 for the Stags with nine homers and 36 RBI.
 
Venuto was the team's leading hitter in MAAC play with a .389 average with seven homers and 23 RBI in 72 at-bats. He was also second on the team with a .750 slugging percentage to combine for a 1.188 OPS against MAAC foes.
 
For the season, he clubbed nine homers with 36 RBI while maintaining a .327 average.
 
He became a regular in the starting lineup in the final 20 games of the season and had several memorable moments. He tallied two game-tying hits in the ninth inning, with a double against Saint Peter's and then a three-run homer against Monmouth. He also batted .485 with runners on base and .455 with runners in scoring position in MAAC play.
 
He would also be named to the MAAC All-Tournament Team after batting .556 (5-for-9) with four runs scored and four RBI in the two games.
 
With Venuto's NEIBA selection, the Stags have now had an All-New England selection in six-straight seasons. Venuto's play helped Fairfield to their second-straight MAAC Championship while tallying 31 victories in 2022.
