Colin Kelly,
Matt Zaffino,
Griffin Watson,
Mike Handal,
Michael Sansone, and
Jake Noviello will be recognized with Senior Day ceremonies starting at 12:30pm.
Â
The Fairfield graduating class has combined for 31 wins and 342 strikeouts on the mound while also combining for 237 hits, 179 runs scored, 26 home runs, and 145 RBI at the plate. They have helped Fairfield to 104 victories in their four seasons while seeing the program reach new heights with an At-Large selection into the NCAA Tournament where they would reach the Austin Regionals in 2021.
Â
This season, they have helped the Stags will to 27 wins including a 15-5 record in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Fairfield can clinch their fourth regular season title in program history with a sweep against the Saints. Fairfield could also clinch a first-round bye in the upcoming MAAC Championships with a win over Siena.
Â
The Stags have won five of their six three-game MAAC series this season, most recently scoring 36 runs in a three-game series against Quinnipiac. Fairfield's offensive identity has been their power as they enter the series leading the conference in home runs (59) and slugging percentage (.460). Fairfield is the only team in the MAAC with six different players collecting at least six homers.
Â
While the offense was the story in the three-game series against Quinnipiac, it was the bullpen that carried the Stags to their most recent victory over Sacred Heart. Nine Stags took the mound for the Stags, holding the Pioneers to two runs on eight hits for the 3-2 victory. Five of those relievers chipped in scoreless frames with
Nick Grabek,
Bo Buckley,
Grant Smeltzer,
Bowen Baker, and
Emmett Tolis finishing the ninth for his first career save.
Â
Fairfield collected just two hits on the day with Zaffino launching the biggest with a solo shot to center field in the second.
Â
The Saints enter with an 11-34 overall record but an 8-12 clip in the MAAC. Alex Milone is the team's leading hitter with a .314 average with Kobe Stenson also batting .308.
Â
With a sweep, the Stags will enter the MAAC Championships as the number one seed and will play on Thursday at 11am. If the Stags win one game in the series, they will be the number two seed in the Tournament and play on Thursday at 3pm.
