Stags Play Crosstown Rivals Sacred Heart on Tuesday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team will play their final non-conference game of the 2022 season when they host crosstown rivals Sacred Heart on Tuesday at noon. This will be the third game between the Stags and the Pioneers this season with both teams winning a game apiece.

Fairfield won their fifth MAAC series of the season last weekend as they took two of three against Quinnipiac. The Fairfield offense shined in the three-game set by scoring 36 runs on 39 hits in the contests. The two teams combined for 17 home runs with five different Stags launching a long ball. The Stags increased their MAAC lead in homers as they have now blasted 58 on the year.

The Stags are also the MAAC leaders in slugging percentage (.464) and OPS (.837). Fairfield is the only team in the conference to have six players hit at least six homers. Charlie Pagliraini leads the group with 10, tying for sixth in the MAAC.

Three Stags hit over .400 in the series against Quinnipiac with Matt Venuto and Colin Kelly tying for the team lead with a .462 average. The duo combined for 14 of the team's 36 runs in the series with Venuto leading the team by crossing the plate eight times.

The win against the Stags has given the Pioneers momentum as they have won eight of their last 11 games. Sacred Heart has won two of their last three conference series against LIU and a sweep over Mount St. Mary's.

The Stags will next compete in their final series of the regular season when they host Siena for a three-game set starting on Thursday at 3pm.
