WEST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. – After capturing the doubles point, third-seeded Fairfield University women's tennis won three straight singles duels to upset No. 2 seed Siena Saturday 4-0, and advance to the 2022 MAAC Championship Game tomorrow morning.
Fairfield kicked off the 2022 MAAC Men's & Women's Tennis Championships presented by VisitNJ, with a pair of wins in the doubles round, first in the No. 3 duel from MAAC Player of the Year Sandra Bozinovic and Laina Campos, 6-2. In the top flight, Paulina Bakaite and Francesca Karman captured a 6-3 win to take the doubles point, leaving the No. 2 match unfinished, with Amanda Nowak and Katarina Plumtree leading 5-3.
In singles play, Bozinovic captured her 21st win of the campaign in the top flight with a straight set victory, 7-5, 6-4. At No. 3 singles, Bakaite completed a sweep of the day as well with a straight set win, 6-4, 6-4. In the No. 5 duel, Aina March sealed the victory for the Stags, taking the opening set 7-5 before shutting out her opponent in the second set to send the Stags to the championship for the first time since the 2018-19 season, when Fairfield hoisted the trophy in a 4-3 win over Quinnipiac.
The 2022 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship match presented by VisitNJ is scheduled for tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. from the Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor Township, N.J. Fairfield will take on Quinnipiac in a rematch of the 2019 title game, after the Bobcats swept Niagara 4-0 in their semifinal contest this morning.
