CHARLESTON, S.C. – Aina March earned her seventh victory of the season in singles play Saturday, the lone point for Fairfield University women's tennis in a 6-1 defeat at the College of Charleston.
"Tough day in our first competition outside," said Head Coach Jeff Bricker. "Aina played a great match at five, and overall, we learned a lot about what we need to do to be better. Credit to Charleston, they're a very solid team."
The win for March came later in the day for Fairfield after Charleston captured the doubles point on the day, as she took the No. 5 duel in straight sets 7-5, 6-3. The Stags put up a fight in all three doubles matches, but a strong effort by the Cougars proved the difference in the first of three matches in South Carolina this week.
Fairfield women's tennis will look to bounce back Wednesday when they take on Wofford. First serve between the Stags and the Terriers is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in Spartanburg, S.C.
