FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will travel to New Rochelle, N.Y., in their lone road contest in a seven game span when they face the Iona Gaels on Thursday night at 7pm. The Stags will look for their sixth-straight win while boosting their conference mark to 13-1.
Fairfield is coming off their first overtime game of the season with a 63-54 win over Canisius on Saturday afternoon. Playing without their leading scorer in
Lou Lopez-Senechal, the Stags used a balanced offensive attack with four players reaching double figures.
Callie Cavanaugh tied for the team lead with 14 points, including the game-tying free throw with 23 seconds remaining.
Sydney Lowery would follow with six points in overtime as the Stags out-scored Canisius 11-2 in the extra frame.
Rcahel Hakes connected on two big 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to open up an eight point Fairfield lead and also led the team with nine rebounds and seven assists. She is now just eight assists shy of becoming the 13th Stag with 350 assists.
Sam Lewis also tied for the team lead with 14 points, as she connected on four 3-pointers. Those three long range shots brought her career total to 113, tying her for 14th on the program's all-time list.
As a team the Stags have been hot from behind the 3-point line, averaging 7.0 makes in their last four games. The Stags are also shooting at a 41 percent clip during that span with Lopez-Senechal and Hakes both shooting over 60 percent.
The Gaels enter play with a 5-7 league mark after three-straight victories against Rider, Canisius, and Siena. Juana Camillion leads the squad with a 12.6 scoring average while also pacing the team with 3.6 assists.
The Stags will return home for another three-game home stand starting with a contest against Siena on Saturday at 3:30pm. This game will conclude a Fairfield Basketball Doubleheader at Webster Bank Arena with the men's squad taking on Niagara at 1pm.
