Doubles Sweep Sends Stags Past Lafayette 4-3

EASTON, PA – A clean sweep of the doubles round early in the day proved to be the difference maker for the Fairfield University women's tennis team, who took a 4-3 victory Saturday over Lafayette.

"It's nice to get one in the win column, especially down some starters," said head coach Jeff Bricker. "It was awesome to see Paulina back in the doubles' lineup after 2 years! All of her hard work is paying off!"

Sandra Bozinovica and Francesca Karman were the Stags' top pairing for the second match in a row, and just as they did last time, earned a victory, 6-2. Paulina Bakaite and Katarina Plumtree served as the No. 2 tandem, cruising to a win by the same margin as the top pairing. Laina Campos and Sophia Prinos stepped up in the No. 3 bout, earning a 6-1 victory to complete a 3-0 sweep of the round.

In singles play, Bozinovic was the first to wrap up play, sweeping the day for the second time this season as she took a 6-3, 6-2 win in the top flight to put Fairfield up 2-0 overall in the match. Lafayette would win the No. 5 match to creep back into the dual, before March took a three-set victory at No. 3 singles 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 and put the Stags one point away from deciding the contest. After the Leopards took the No. 2 bout, Tuttle would seal a victory in the No. 6 flight 6-3, 6-1 in straight sets, before another Leopards win, this time at No. 2 singles to officially set the final score at 4-3 in favor of the Stags, who earn their first win of the spring and improve to 2-2 overall.

Fairfield women's tennis is back in action Saturday when they head out to Rhode Island to take on Providence. First serve between the Stags and the Friars is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. start from the Providence College Tennis Courts.
