Women's Tennis Rallies in Singles for 4-3 Win at Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It came down to the final match of the day, but a thrilling three set win by Amanda Nowak sealed a 4-3 victory for Fairfield University women's tennis Saturday at Providence.

"Great comeback win today, the girls showed their toughness and grit!" said Head Coach Jeff Bricker. "Amanda [Nowak] played a gutsy third set saving two match points and completing the comeback!"

Nowak's win in the No. 4 match marks the fifth of the year for the Fairfield senior and was the fourth singles victory for the Stags in Saturday's match after the Friars took the doubles point to start the day. Francesca Karman also went the distance, taking the opener 6-4, and after falling by the same score in set two, swept the decisive round to earn the win at No. 6 singles, her fourth of the season.

Elsewhere in singles play, Katarina Plumtree took a straight set victory at No. 2 singles 6-1, 7-6 to take her sixth win of the season, the second-best mark of any Stag. Aina March earned the other win for Fairfield, her second win in as many games, taking a straight set victory 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 5 position.

Fairfield women's tennis is back in action Saturday, making their first appearance of the Spring on campus hosting Stony Brook. The Stags and Seawolves will battle it out Feb. 26 from the WAC Tennis Courts.
