FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will complete a season-long three game road trip when they travel to Dayton, Ohio, for their first-ever meeting with the Dayton Flyers on Wednesday night at 7pm.
Â
The Stags have been hot offensively through the first two games of their trip as they are averaging 77.0 points per game while shooting 41 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range against Fordham and Binghamton.
Â
At the forefront of Fairfield's scoring efforts have been the duo of
Callie Cavanaugh and Izabela Nicoletti-Leite who have combined for 64 percent of the team's scoring during the last two games. Cavanaugh has highlighted the Stags with a 27.5 scoring average this road trip, helping her earn her second MAAC Player of the Week award. She was also a Met Basketball Writer's Weekly Honorable Mention.
Â
Cavanaugh leads the MAAC and ranks in the top-30 nationally with 19.9 points per game. She has netted 20 or more points three times in the first seven games of the season after eclipsing that number just once in her previous 107 career outings.
Â
Nicoletti-Leite has also been impressive on the road trip following the two best games of her collegiate career. She is averaging 22.0 points while shooting 56 percent from 3-point range (9-for-16) in the last two games. She is coming off her best offensive game with a career-high 25 points while shooting a personal best 6-for-10 from long range.
Â
It is the first time that Fairfield has had a pair of teammates reach 20 or more points in back-to-back games since
Lou Lopez-Senechal and Katie Armstrong accomplished the feat on Feb. 6-8, 2020 at Niagara and Canisius.
Â
Fairfield enters as the top-team in the MAAC in drawing free throws as they have attempted 18.9 free throws per game. That is the highest number for the Stags since the 2006-07 season.
Â
The Flyers will be looking for their first win of the season after a hard-fought loss to Florida on Sunday. Destiny Bohanon is the team's leading scorer at 14.0 points per game.
Â
Fairfield will return home and close out the non-conference portion of their schedule as they host crosstown rivals Sacred Heart on Sunday at 2pm.
