FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams will return to action this weekend, traveling to the Terrier Invitational on the campus of Boston University. The Invitational is a three-day event that begins on Friday, November 18.
The event will mark a brief departure from the Stags' dual meet schedule after competing against schools for the last four dates. Fairfield performed well in those contests by winning three of four dual meets. The Stags opened the season with three wins against Monmouth, Providence, and Holy Cross before coming up short against Marist.
Fairfield continues to receive outstanding individual efforts across all events, a trend that Head Coach
Jacy Dyer looks to build upon as the team prepares for team competition at the Terrier Invitational and other championship-setting events that will be coming up beginning in January.
Erini Pappas and
Alexis Gaulin come off back-to-back Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) weekly accolades. Pappas took first place in the 100 back (58.50) and the 200 back (2:07.41) along with helping the 200 free relay record the fastest time of 1:38.81. Gaulin picked up a first and second place showing in the two diving events against Marist, scoring a meet-high 216 points in the 1 meter dive and a runner-up total of 211.35 in the 3 meter dive.
On the men's side, Chris Ford picked up a pair of victories in a dual meet against Marist. He won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.37 and followed up with a winning time in the 200 breaststroke (2:08.99). Sam Tonole and Noah Duncan each took a second-place finish to represent the men's divers against the Red Foxes. Tonole registered 205.73 points through his rotation while Duncan recorded 206.70 points in the 3 meter dive.
Following the Terrier Classic, the Stags will look to compete at the US Open Championships in Greensboro, N.C. The event begins on November 30 and runs through December 3. The US Swimming event will take place at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
