FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University swimming and diving programs will head south for a dual meet with Fordham University on Saturday, November. 1. The meet represents the team's first road trip since sweeping Providence College on October 18.
The Stags have enjoyed much success since the season started on the first weekend of October. After hosting and winning the Fairfield Invitational in the season opener, Fairfield has picked up victories in most of the early-season dual meets.
The men's team has posted wins in all three of its dual meets, outscoring Bryant University, Providence, and Marist University over the last three Saturdays. The women's team won two of its three matchups with those schools including last weekend's win over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC foe) Marist.
Last week, Fairfield received strong performances from several different fronts with three student-athletes earning MAAC weekly honors. Lillian Tonole captured the MAAC Diver of the Month after sweeping the 1- and 3-meter events.
Katie Torrey touched the wall first in the 100 and 200 back to garner MAAC Rookie of the Week. And, Andrew Nathe won another MAAC Rookie of the Week following his performance in the 50 and 100 free.
Fairfield and Fordham will renew their series history this weekend after not competing against one another since the 2019-20 season. The Rams came away with a sweep that afternoon, scoring a 175-67 decision in the women's meet and a 162-75 decision in the men's meeting.
Fordham will swim against a MAAC opponent for the second straight week, coming off a sweep of Manhattan University on October 17. The men's team brings a 1-2 mark while the women's program owns a 3-1 record heading into this weekend's action.
Karina Kanary (100 fly, 100 back) and Saskia Aikman (200 free, 50 fly) comprised the dual winners for the women's team. On the men's side, Quinn McPhail (200 free, 100 breast), Max Maycher (50 free, 200 IM), and Marco Petit (1-meter, 3-meter diving) secured dual victories for the Rams.
Following this weekend's action, the Stags will have a brief layoff in competition. Fairfield will return to the pool when it travels to the Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University. The Stags will close out the first semester in the three-day event which takes place from November 21-23.
