BRONX, N.Y. – Four Fairfield University swimmers picked up double wins in today's dual meet with Fordham University as the men's team defeated the Rams by a 176.5 to 123.5 score while the women's team was edged out by a 172-128 count.
Balazs Ament swept the breaststroke events, posting the time times in the 100 (56.94) and the 200 (2:04.17) events. He also took home a third place position in the 200 IM, completing a sweep of the top three for the Stags. Andrew Nathe also picked up two wins in the freestyle, touching the wall first in the 50 (21.23) and the 100 (46.47) sprints.
The women's team also saw two swimmers take a pair of events, namely
Tone Sandsjo and
Natasha De Pree. Sandsjo took both breaststroke races, recording a time of 1:04.01 in the 100 and 2:23.63 in the 200 swims. De Pree garnered first-place finishes in the freestyle, competing the 200 in 1:53.58 and the 500 in 5:02.15.
Bobby Regan brought back a first and a second place during the meet, taking the top spot in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.53 and placing second in the 200 breast by clocking in at 2:07.43. Jack Behm also accomplished the task with his win in the 200 back (1:54.01) and the runner up in the 200 IM (1:54.99).
The men's team also had individual winners in several other events, beginning with Tim Regan's win in the 200 yard free (1:41.03). Max McMillan took home the best time in the 100 yard back, posting a time of 50.71. James Robinson came away with the fastest time in the 200 yard fly, completing the event in 1:54.63.
Katie Torrey garnered a first-place finish in the 200 yard back, touching the wall in 2:05.39 while
Allie Bashor did the same in the 100 yard fly with a time of 57.14.
The men's 400 relay team also reached gold to highlight the relays for Fairfield as Tim Regan, Andrew Nathe, Aidan Schnapf, and Cormac Rouse combined for the top time of 3:05.00.
In diving, Andrew Cataldo took second place in the both events, scoring 250.58 points in the 1 meter and 249.00 in the 3 meter. Lillian Tonole represented the top scoring diver by taking sixth place in the 1 meter (205.13) and fifth in the 3 meter (210.38).
The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams will have a brief break from competition until returning for the Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University. The three-day event runs from November 21-23.
