Men's Soccer Hosts Siena Wednesday Night

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's soccer team will close out the 2022 regular season by hosting Siena College on Wednesday night at Lessing Field. The match is scheduled for a 7 pm start with both teams looking to improve their place in the standings with a victory.

Both teams picked up a point in the standings with a draw in their last outing, beginning with the Saints 2-2 draw against Rider a week ago. Fairfield scored first in its match with Marist before the Red Foxes rallied to tie the match a few minutes later, resulting a 1-1 draw last Saturday night. Both teams have 13 points in the standings with Siena holding a 3-2-4 record in conference play while the Stags hit their point total based on their 4-4-1 MAAC mark. Niagara is also tied with these two programs through their 3-2-4 conference slate.

Alex Oliveira scored Fairfield's lone goal against Marist which raised his season total to five which ties him for the team lead in that category. Raz Amir also has five goals but also possesses five assists which gives him a team-best 15 points in his 17 games this season. Three of Amir's goals represent game winners which is also tops on the team with Joseph Lozowski and Rasmus Sorensen-Rejnhold just behind him with two game-winning goals.

Goalkeeper James Anderson continued his impressive season by allowing just the one goal to Marist, the 11th time in 17 games in which he allowed one goal or less this season. Anderson owns a 1.71 goals against average with a .710 save percentage (71 saves) which is aided by his six clean sheets this season.

Siena enters this week with a 7-5-5 overall record that includes a 4-3-1 mark in non-conference play this season. The Saints enjoyed solid start to the 2022 campaign by posting a 4-1-1 through the first six matches of the season. Thomas Storodegard accounts for seven goals this season which represents the team lead in that category as well as total points with 14. More importantly, five of his seven goals decided the outcome of a game which included three MAAC contests - Quinnipiac, Marist, and Mount St. Mary's. Zach Gardner (four goals, two assists) and Bilal Hersi (three goals, four assists) are next on the scoring chart with 10 points each.

Goalkeeper Greg Monroe has 17 starts to his credit this season which he has turned into a 1.08 goals against average off 18 goals allowed in those 17 appearances. The graduate student 70 saves which breaks down to just over four saves per match and a .795 save percentage.

The MAAC Soccer Championship begins on Sunday, November 6 with the third and fourth seeds hosting the sixth and fifth seeds respectively. The two winners from that round will advance to play the first and second seeds in the conference semifinals on the campus of the higher seeds.
