FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will put their unblemished 3-0 MAAC record on the line when they travel to face the Rider Broncs at 7pm. Fairfield will be looking to improve their conference record to 4-0 for the third-straight season.
Fairfield, one of three teams in the MAAC without a conference loss, won their third-straight MAAC contest with an impressive 69-52 victory against Iona. The Stags, playing without two impact players, shot a season best 52 percent from the field including an outstanding 58 percent mark in the second half.
The Stags scored the first eight points of the second half to complete a game deciding 12-0 run in the victory.
Lou Lopez-Senechal led the Stags with a game-high 22 points, her second-straight games with 20 or more points. The senior has reached that mark five times during the season and the Stags have won four of those contests.
Sam Lewis had one of her best offensive showings of the season as she tallied a season-high 18 points connecting on six 3-pointers. Three of those long range shots came during Fairfield's second half run. Lewis, who is six 3-pointers shy of 100 in her career, ranks second in the MAAC with 2.0 3-pointers made this season.
Callie Cavanaugh was a presence inside the paint for the Stags against Iona as she was very efficient on the offensive end, hitting seven of her 10 shot attempts.
Andrea Hernangomez led the Stags with 10 rebounds and now ranks third in the MAAC with 9.5 rebounds per game.
Rachel Hakes led the team with eight assists and is now 10 shy of 300 for her career.
Rider enters the game with a 1-2 conference mark after a loss to Manhattan in their last time out. Lenaejha Evans leads the team with a 15.4 points scoring average and Raphaela Toussaint is the team leader on the boards with 7.8 rebounds per game.
The Stags will next embark on their Western New York swing next weekend, starting with a Thursday afternoon game against Niagara on Jan. 13 at 2pm.
