BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will look to sweep their Western New York swing for the first time in a decade when they visit the Canisius Golden Griffins on Saturday at 1pm. A victory will also improve Fairfield's conference record to 6-0 for the second time in the last three seasons and the third time in school history.
Fairfield ran their conference winning streak to five-straight after their best offensive performance of the season in an 81-64 victory at Niagara. The Stags tallied season-highs with 81 points and a .525 shooting percentage.
The two-time reigning MAAC Player of the Week
Lou Lopez-Senechal led the Stags with her third-straight 20 point outing with 24 against the Purple Eagles. The senior netted 22 of those points in the second half and 16 in the final quarter.
The red-hot shooting of
Sam Lewis kept the Stags in the game in the first half as Lewis connected on all four of her 3-point attempts in the second quarter, helping the Stags to a halftime lead.
Rachel Hakes orchestrated the high powered offense as she tied her season-high with 11 assists. Hakes also dished out the 300th assist of her career, becoming the 18th Stag in history to reach that number.
Callie Cavanaugh also filled up the box score with 10 points and a team-high three blocks. The Stags have now recorded 13 blocks in their last three games after tallying just 10 in their first 10 contests.
Canisius brings an 0-4 conference record into the contest after falling to Niagara in overtime and recently falling to Rider. Dani Haskell leads the team with a 15.2 scoring average including a team-high 27 points against Niagara.
Fairfield will return home to face the Manhattan Jaspers on Thursday at 5pm at Webster Bank Arena, beginning a Fairfield Basketball doubleheader as the men's team welcomes Monmouth.
