LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Fairfield University Women's Tennis opened a key Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference weekend with a 4-3 victory on Saturday afternoon at Rider.
Aina March had the match-clinching win at #4 singles.
"We came out with a lot of focus after Wednesday's tough loss to Monmouth," said Head Coach
Jeff Bricker. "We finally played a complete doubles point which I was excited to see. We competed hard in singles even with a few injuries, and Katarina, Aina and Anna were able to bring us home with the win. It's a short turnaround with Siena tomorrow, but we will be ready!"
The Stags swept the doubles point in convincing fashion.
Scarlett Hutchinson and
Francesca Karman won, 6-3, at the top of the lineup, the duo of
Amanda Nowak and
Katarina Plumtree earned a 7-5 victory at #2, and the team of
Anna Komer and
Sophia Prinos rounded out the sweep with a 6-2 win in the #3 spot.
In singles action, wins for Plumtree at #2 and Komer at #6 brought the Stags to the brink of a triumph. That clinching point came from March, who battled for a 7-5 win in her first set t #4 singles then kept rolling en route to a 6-1 win in the second frame to lock up the victory.
Fairfield will bring a 2-1 record in MAAC play into tomorrow's visit from Siena. Due to the expectation of inclement weather, the match with the Saints will be contested indoors at the Tennis Club of Trumbull.
