Fairfield Athletics to Permit Limited Attendance for Family Members at Home Games

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced that its member institutions may permit a limited number of student-athlete family members to attend home games for all MAAC-sponsored sports being contested beginning this Saturday, March 6. The MAAC policy reads as follows:

To allow two family members per student-athlete for the home team to attend all MAAC competition, subject to state, local, and institutional regulations exercised at the institution's discretion. The MAAC supports the right of individual member institutions to make this policy more restrictive, based on their campus COVID policies, local and state health guidelines, and the capacity and configuration of their athletic facilities. The new policy is effective March 6.

Fairfield University has implemented its own institutional policy for games contested on campus this spring. The policy will also extend to Field Hockey, which competes in the Northeast Conference, and Men's Lacrosse, which competes in the Colonial Athletic Association.

"I am thrilled for our student-athletes and their families that we are able to permit limited attendance to our home athletics contests, effective on Saturday, March 6," said Fairfield University Director of Athletics Paul Schlickmann. "We are all grateful for the vigilance and commitment by our entire university community that has led to this juncture where we can safely provide this opportunity for our student-athletes and their families."

No more than two family members per student-athlete will be permitted to attend home games on Fairfield University's campus. Family members must be pre-registered by that student-athlete by 5 p.m. the day before the game. At the main gate to campus, registered family members must produce identification, a completed health verification survey on the LiveSafe app, and proof of a negative Covid-19 test conducted within 72 hours of arrival.

Effective April 1, 2021, Fairfield parents or family members who are on the pass list for a home athletic event, can show proof of full vaccination in lieu of providing a negative covid-19 test.

All policies and procedures are subject to change at any time in accordance with changes to University policy and/or local and state guidelines. Additional policies may be put in place for specific sports due to venue capacity or restrictions. This information will be communicated directly to the student-athletes and their families that may be impacted.
