Stags Fall to Fordham in Home Opener

Karman and Komer earn singles and doubles wins

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Tennis was in action on the Walsh Athletic Center Outdoor Courts for the first time in 2021 on Saturday, hosting Fordham in non-conference action. Francesca Karman and Anna Komer teamed up for a doubles victory and then each picked up a singles win, but the Rams came away with a 5-2 decision.

"This was a tough loss today. We had some chances to pull out a victory, but we got too far behind," said Head Coach Jeff Bricker. "We had a slow start in singles, and it was just a bit too much to overcome. I liked the fight out of the team, but we need to get rolling much faster. We'll get back to work on the practice courts and be ready for Providence on Wednesday."

Karman and Komer were victorious at #1 doubles, but Fordham took the win at #3 and earned the doubles point due to a retirement in the #2 spot.

In singles play, Karman rebounded after dropping set one to earn the win at #3, and Komer won in straight sets at #5. Also of note, Sophia Prinos rallied to force a third set at #4, but ultimately dropped the match in the third frame. The Rams locked up the win with straight-set victories at #1, #2 and #6.

The Stags are back on the WAC Tennis Courts on Wednesday, March 17 with a 2 p.m. visit from Providence.
