FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will embark on their first road trip of the season as they open up a four game road swing starting with a Sunday afternoon game at Rutgers. The Stags and the Scarlet Knights will be meeting for the second time in school history and the first time since the 1984-85 season.
The Stags are coming off an impressive 76-52 victory over Brown in their season opener. Four Stags reached double figures in scoring, led by
Callie Cavanaugh's career-high 20 points. Cavanaugh is averaging 18.0 PPG over her last two games which includes the MAAC Semifinals contest against Marist last season.

Lou Lopez-Senechal who started her season with a 19 point showing. It was also an history night for Lopez-Senechal who became the 32nd Stag in program history to reach the 1,000 point milestone. Lopez-Seenchal accomplished the feat in just 69 games, the third fastest Stag to reach 1,000 points (Gail Strumpf – 67 games and Katrina Fields – 60).
Sydney Lowery and
Andrea Hernangomez also added 15 points apiece, with Hernangomez matching her career-high. In her first game as a Stag, Lowery also dished out four assists, recorded four steals, and connected on two 3-pointers.
The orchestrator of the Fairfield offense was point guard
Rachel Hakes who tallied 11 assists in the season opening win. Hakes, who ranked fourth in the country in assists per game last season recorded her fourth career game with 10 or more assists.
Rutgers also enters the contest unbeaten in the early season with a 2-0 record. Liz Martino leads the team with a 10.0 scoring average and Osh Brown averages the most rebounds with 7.5 boards per contest.
The Stags will next travel to Florida to take part in the MAAC/ASUN challenge, starting with a contest against Stetson on Friday, Nov. 19 at 1:30pm.
