FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Former Fairfield University Women's Basketball standout Macey Hollenshead '18 is returning to Fairfield as the program's newest assistant coach, the team announced today. Hollenshead, a former team captain for the Stags, has had experience in a pair of assistant coaching spots including Seton Hill University and most recently at Shepherd University.
"I am excited to welcome Macey back to our program," Head Coach
Joe Frager said. "She had a great work ethic and competitive fire as a player and I know she will bring those attributes as a coach. Since graduation, Macey has steadily gained coaching experience and I know she will have a positive impact."
"I'm extremely excited to be back at Fairfield and look forward to working with this staff and our student-athletes," Hollenshead said. "Fairfield is a special place to grow in the next steps of the coaching journey."
Hollenshead's most recent coaching position came as an assistant at Shepherd University during the last season. Hollenshead played a vital role on and off the floor by aiding player development through video reviews of practice and games as well as through individual and small group skill development. She was also in charge of all scouting reports with an extra emphasis on analytical reports.
Before her arrival at Shepherd, Hollenshead spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Seton Hill University. Hollenshead provided instruction throughout practice as well as developed in-season scouting reports and game analysis. At Seton Hill, she mentored two All-Conference selections including one All-American. She also helped Seton Hill to the best GPA in WBCA Division II with a 3.83 mark.
Hollenshead was a starting point guard for the Stags, appearing in 82 contests with 37 starts. She would tally 120 assists in her career. Her best season came during her senior season when she was elected a team captain and would set career-highs in almost every offensive category, including leading the team with a .379 3-point shooting percentage.
Hollenshead's hiring completes the 2021-22 Women's Basketball coaching staff as they set for competition in just one month. The Stags open their campaign against Brown on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at Webster Bank Arena.
