Bruno Announces Eight Newcomers to Fairfield Swimming and Diving

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield University Swimming and Diving Head Coach Anthony Bruno announced today a total of eight new additions to the men's and women's team for the upcoming 2020-21 season. This year's incoming class consists of three swimmers and one diver for the women's team and three swimmers for the men's team.
 
"The class of 2024 is one with a tremendous amount of talent and depth" said Head Coach Anthony Bruno. "Between the eight student athletes we have a combination of sectional, national and even national team experience! The last three seasons we've seen a tremendous amount of growth as a program, this group of team members will assist in continuing that growth as we strive to be a more national level program. The coaching staff worked hard to put together this group and we are thrilled about the potential of the next few years."
 
Serafina Viola (Rochester, NY)
Club: Fairport Area Swim
High School: Penfield Senior High
Events: Sprint Free/ Backstroke
 
Coach Bruno: "Serafina brings depth and speed to our relays and short events. Serafina has competed at the top of the state of New York for years. She brings a team-first attitude and I couldn't be more thrilled to have her joining us!"
 
Maggie O'Donnell (Cranford, NJ)
Club: Jersey Gators
High School: Cranford High
Events: Fly/ Free
 
Coach Bruno: "Maggie will bring strength to our butterfly and free training groups. Maggie is a fierce competitor and we're looking forward to working with her to get to the next level!"
 
Emma McClellan (Scituate, MA)
Club: Weymouth Waves
High School: Scituate High
Events: Breaststroke/ IM
 
Coach Bruno: "Emma will be joining what has been one of the strongest breaststroke groups in the MAAC the last 3 years. Emma has shown a tremendous amount of development over the last 18 months and we are confident that she'll bring depth and strength to the group!"
 
Eleonore Rembert (Montpellier, France)
Club: ASPTT Montpellier
High School: Lycée Jean Mermoz
Events: Backstroke/ Free
 
Coach Bruno: "Eleonore brings national team and international experience to the program from her home country of France. Eleonore will compete mostly in Backstroke but brings a range of events that will help strengthen multiple spots in our lineup. I am looking forward to helping Eleonore continue to develop into a high-level performer"  
 
Alexis Gaulin (Plainville, MA)
High School: Bishop Feehan High
Events: Dive
 
Coach Bruno: "Alexis will be a significant piece in our diving rebuild. Alexis still has a lot of growth in the sport of diving, her raw skills make her a potential threat to be at the top of the MAAC for years to come"
 
Alexey Belfer (Espoo, Finland)
Club: Orca Helsinki
High School: Ruusutorppa School
Events: Sprint Free/ Fly
 
Coach Bruno: "Alex will bring front-line speed to the top of our lineup. Alex has national team experience where he represented Finland at the 2018 Youth Olympics. At the games, Alex finished 21st in the 50 M free. Throughout the process Alex has brought a lot of energy and desire to improve and I am excited to help him at the next level"
 

Christopher Chumbley (Belchertown, MA)
Club: PVAA Swimming
High School: Belchertown High
Events: Back/ Fly
 
Coach Bruno: "During the recruiting process it was evident Chris was a team first guy. Chris can swim a range of strokes and events and will impact us positively all over the line up. Chris had some significant breakthroughs this past season and I can't wait to see him at the next level"
 
Hans Tristan Lim (Levittown, NY)
Club: Long Island Aquatic Club
High School: Division Avenue Senior High
Events: Fly/ IM/ Breaststroke
 
Coach Bruno: "Hans comes from a strong group of Long Island Aquatic Club swimmers over the last few years. Hans can swim a range of events and will be able to move around the lineup. I think Hans will grow significantly in our training groups and I am excited to work with him this upcoming season!"
