EDISON, N.J. – Five former Fairfield University Baseball student-athletes were named among the conference's all-time best as the group was honored with a spot on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) 40th anniversary team.
Jack Gethings, Rob Gariano, Ryan Plourde, Tucker Nathans, and Tom Lopusznick received the recognition as the group combined for seven All-MAAC First Team honors, a MAAC Player of the Year award, and a MAAC Championship.
Jack Gethings (2016-19)
Gethings graduated as Fairfield's all-time hits leader with 271 base knocks in his career. He also holds the records for most runs scored (170), triples (11), and games started (223). His biggest season came during his senior campaign when he became the first Stag in program history to be named the MAAC Player of the Year after setting the single season record with 88 hits. He also helped to lead the Stags to their first-ever MAAC Tournament Championship in 2016.
Rob Gariano (2007-10)
One of the best pitchers in school history, Gariano is the all-time strikeout leader at Fairfield by fanning 293 in his career. He also holds the school record with 323.1 innings pitched and is in the top-five with five shutouts and 17 wins. He is one of just three players in program history to earn a pair of All-MAAC First Team honors, receiving the recognition in 2008 and 2009.
Ryan Plourde (2011-14)
One of the most consistent players in school history, Plourde batted over .300 for three-straight seasons and graduated with a .323 batting average. Plourde was also a versatile fielder, playing almost every position including catching his senior season. He ranks in the top-five in program history with 224 hits, 121 walks, 139 runs scored, 11 triples, and a .435 on-base-percentage. He was named to both the All-MAAC First Team and the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) First Team in consecutive seasons. In those two years combined, Plourde batted .350 with 128 hits and 67 RBI.
Tucker Nathans (2008-11)
Nathans ranks in the top-five in almost every offensive category while holding the records with 61 doubles and 401 total bases. Nathans is currently second all-time with 263 hits, 155 RBI, and a .352 batting average. One of his best seasons came in 2009 when he recorded a .377 batting average with 69 hits. He was a NEIBA All-Star in 2010 and 2011 as well as an All-MAAC Second Team honor in 2010.
Tom Lopusznick (1997-2000)
The best power hitter in program history, Lopusznick holds the all-time records in home runs (35), RBI (165), and slugging percentage (.569). He's the only Stag ever to have multiple 10 home run seasons as he belted 10 homers in 1999 and 2000. He was the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year in 2000 and helped the Stags make the MAAC Championship Finals that season. Along with his power numbers, Lopusznick also ranks third all-time with 77 stolen bases.
