FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After 60 years as the home of the Stags, Alumni Hall will host it's final game ever when the Fairfield University Women's Basketball team hosts Niagara on Saturday at 2pm. The historic game will also be the Stags' Senior Day when they honor their Senior Class of 2020 with
Sam Kramer and
Nicole Bus being honored before the contest. The program will also recognize graduate student
Kendra Landy for her five years of dedication to the program.
The Stags have played 391 games inside Alumni Hall since their first Division I season during the 1981-82 campaign. Fairfield owns a 286-105 all-time mark in the building with a 97-43 record under Head Coach
Joe Frager. Fairfield played its first game in Alumni Hall on Dec. 8, 1981 when they defeated UConn, 70-67.
Fairfield clinched a first round bye in the upcoming MAAC Championships with a 58-46 win over Siena on Thursday night. After struggling through the month of February, the Stags' defense regained their intensity in the first game in March giving up just 46 points while Siena shot 28 percent from the floor. It marked the eighth time this season that the Stags have held an opponent to under 50 points, a stretch where they are a perfect 8-0.
Katie Armstrong led the Stags with 18 points on 8-for-15 shooting. In her first career start,
Andrea Hernangomez recorded her second career double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
The win also clinched another conference winning season for the Stags, their 12th in Frager's 13 years at the helm.
Kramer, Bus, and Landy will all be playing in their final home game as Stags on Thursday night. Kramer has been a leader by example for the Stags over her four years, one of her biggest impacts on the team. She is just three assists shy of becoming the 17th Stag to reach 300 assists and currently ranks eighth with 144 career 3-pointers made.
Bus has appeared in 15 games as a Stag and has also been a constant positive presence in practice, in the community, and in the classroom. Bus has volunteered in several community outreach initiatives during her four years including: Read Aloud, the Walk to End Alzheimer's, and Welcome Back Day for Bridgeport schools. She has taken that dedication to the classroom where she will graduate in May with a degree in Biology after maintaining a 3.68 GPA.
Landy is in her fifth year with the program playing in over 120 games as a Stag. She has led the offense at the point through her five year stay and is also nearing the 300 assist milestone. One the team's tri-captains, she posted career-highs in points and field goal percentage during the 2016-17 campaign.
With a win, the Stags will clinch the number three seed in the MAAC Tournament and will play their first game on Thursday, March 12 at 12pm at the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. If the Stags lose, they will be either the four or five seed and compete on Thursday at 2:30 pm.
